ON the FAIRWAYS
NEW ROSS SENIORS
Prior to our draw for teams on Thursday, we observed a minute’s silence in memory of Eileen Quigley and Frances Kennedy, both of whom passed away recently.
Their respective husbands, Dan Quigley and John Kennedy, are both long-time loyal members of our Seniors group and we pass on our deepest sympathy to them both and to their respective families in their sad bereavements.
We had a rather pleasant April day for our outing, with temperatures up on recent times and underfoot conditions drying out. The eleven teams participating enjoyed their golf in overcast conditions with little or no wind.
Playing the champagne scramble format which is the one most suitable for our ageing members, some fine scores were recorded.
None were better than the winning 96 points scored by Aidan O’Connor (20), Billy Redmond (21), Kenny Irwin (22) and Tom Furlong (26). Second were Johnny Hosey (14), John F. Roche (21), Frank Boyle (23) and Brian Dolan (23), finishing only one point behind with 95.
Third prize on 90 points went to Denis Kirwan (14), Willie Naddy (20), Liam Glasheen (20) and Jamesie Murphy (24). Nearest the pin prizes went to Martin Hartley on the ninth hole and Willie Kelly on the eleventh.
Our next away outing is to Bunclody Golf and Fishing Club on Tuesday, April 24. Anyone who has not booked in already should do so immediately with Jamesie Murphy on 085-1846172 or e-mail jamesiemurphy@gmail.com.
The teams and tee-times will be ready for inspection at our home outing next Thursday, April 19. The all-in fee including a contribution towards extra prizes is €25.
Just a reminder to all members - the draw for teams is at 9.45 a.m. sharp and it is the responsibility of those wishing to play to have their money in the box and their names on the board well in advance of this cut-off time limit.
