Greyhound legend Kathleen honoured for lifetime contribution
REGARDED as a bona fide legend in greyhound circles, Kathleen Stamp from Glenbrien was presented with a special award recently to mark her more than 50 years of involvement in the racing sector.
Minister at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Andrew Doyle TD, presented Kathleen with her award, sponsored by Galway Crystal, along with members of the Irish Greyhound Board at The National Greyhound Racing Award at a glamorous event in the Killashee Hotel, Co Kildare.
Kathleen was over the moon at having been chosen and now, at the ripe old age of 87, still loves nothing more than a night at the track.
Kathleen is well-known in the industry for the greyhound prefix Glenbrien, with her dog Glenbrien Blaze in particularly going down in racing folklore. That was the beginning of a great association with the sport for her and she still trains her own dogs to this day and loves to get to the track.
Phil Meaney, Chairman of the IGB commented ‘I wish to congratulate all finalists and winners for their achievements.
‘The high standard of quality across all categories is evidence of the commitment and passion that exists within the Irish Greyhound sector. I wish to thank Minister Andrew Doyle TD for presenting the awards and for the continued support of Government for the greyhound sector.’
Kathleen was delighted to bring home the trophy and no doubt it will join several others that were hard earned through exciting nights at the track.
