Fundraiser makes €540 for Meals on Wheels

-

THE immediate future looked quite good for Clonroche Meals on Wheels as the proceeds from an evening with psychic/medium Carol Byrne at the Cloch Bán were handed over to this worthy cause. Carol has a great following in the area and saw a great crowd turn out on the night as she offered readings in exchange for donations.

In total, the evening raised €540 for Clonroche Meals on Wheels and they were absolutely delighted to receive a cheque which will go a long way towards helping them to maintain this excellent service.

‘We were absolutely delighted,’ said Gretta Browne of Meals on Wheels. ‘Carol has a great following and we were delighted that she had the event for us and that so many attended. We have to fundraise all the time to keep the service going, so gestures like this are very important.’

Gretta explained that the organisation currently consists of around 36 volunteer drivers who deliver fully cooked meals to up to 65 people per week. Everything is cooked up in the Cloch Bán before being delivered right across Clonroche, Ballywilliam, Courtnacuddy and Davidstown. The recipient in each case pays €4 for their three course meal, while the organisation matches this by paying the bulk of €5 on each meal.

Gretta says that they are extremely grateful to everyone who is so good to them, particularly Carol for the most recent event, Leo Tector who organises the Vintage Run each St Stephen’s Day and CJ Doyle who raises money for them through the Clonroche Gymkhana.
