Beauty Queen of Leenane takes a fantastic final bow
HAVING tread the boards all over the country on the All Ireland Drama Circuit, Enniscorthy Drama Group returned to The Presentation Centre with their production of ‘ The Beauty Queen of Leenane’.
The group has gained massive critical acclaim for their staging of the Martin McDonagh classic and they can feel hard done by for the fact that they were just pipped to a place in the All-Ireland Finals by the narrowest of margins. Despite that, the cast and crew have had a great time working on the play, something which is evident in watching them and hearing them discuss their adventures on the road.
Director Tom Reddy did a marvellous job with the cast of Anne-Marie Whelan, Michelle Whelan, Brendan Robinson and Fintan Kelly and the group managed to scoop some significant awards out on the road too including best actress, best supporting roles, most promising actor, group awards, best director and best overall play, receiving plenty of nominations besides.
It therefore was fitting that the pro- duction got a final outing in front of a home crowd and the cast got a wonderful reception from those in attendance. Having closed this chapter, the group will now have one eye on their next production and no doubt it’s something that will come up for discussion at the group’s AGM at 7.30 p.m. at Treacy’s Hotel on Tuesday, May 15.
