-

STUDENTS from Meanscoil Gharman managed to scoop a major prize recently at the Calmast Science Fair in Waterford Institute of Technology. Conn Caomhánach and Con Ó Meachair managed to pick up the Science Foundation Ireland Best Project Award at Scifest for their project ‘Investigating the Effects of E.M. Probiotics’.

By winning this award, the students now qualify to exhibit at the Scifest 2018 National Final and to compete for the Scifest 2018 Science Foundation Ireland ISEF Award. If they emerge successful, they will compete for the award which includes an all-expenses-paid trip to represent Ireland at the 2019 ISEF competition in Phoenix Arizona.

Scifest aims to promote STEM subjects, while giving students of all abilities the opportunity to develop their research, problem solving, critical thinking and presentation skills.

Conn and Con are delighted to have scooped this award and everyone at the school is hopeful that they can progress even further, flying the flag for Enniscorthy along the way.

‘ This is a huge achievement for Meánscoil Gharman as the school strives to foster these skills through the medium of Irish,’ said teacher Elaine Nic Réamoinn, who will continue to work with the students on their project over the summer. ‘We will them all the best with their research.’
