LOVE/HATE ACTRESS SHINES IN ‘NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE’

-

WHILE the attendance may not exactly what she may have been accustomed to, actress Mary Murray didn’ t let it phase her as she delivered a wonderful performance in the one-woman play‘ No Smoke Without Fire’ at The Presentation Centre.

Probably best known for her role as Janet in the gritty crime series Love/ Hate, Mary has also starred in such hit films as The Magdalene Sisters and Adam and Paul. Her latest venture has seen her team up with her father, Pad dy Murray, who wrote the play specially for her acting talents. Directed by Jimmy Smallhorne, the plot surrounds €60,000 in post office robbery money which is up for grabs and scandal knows no bounds as six women gossip intermittent ly in the smoking areaofa Dublin pub. Astheydo, they leave a trail of personal information behind them and a hilarious tale of crime and consequence unfolds.

While it must be a daunting task to take on a one-woman play, Mary takes to the role with apparent ease and, such is the energy she puts into the show that you almost forget its just one person on a stage.

Whiletheshow, unfortunately, didn’t attract the crowd it deserved, itdidcreate an intimate feel that added to the believability of overhearing conversations in a pub smoking area. Those present thoroughly enjoyed the show and hailed Murray’s fantastic performance, along with her father’s writing which really captures the sharp Dublin wit.
