Mary elected president of County Wexford ICA
THE WEXFORD ICA has elected a new President for the coming term.
The election took place at the organisation’s recent Annual General Meeting which was held in the Ferrycarrig Hotel.
Mary D’Arcy, from Ballyfad guild, was presented with the chain of office at the meeting from outgoing president, Deirdre Connery, of Duncannon guild.
It was a significant event as the outgoing Federation Committee was coming to the end of its three-year term and the officers gave their final reports of the year.
The election of Produce Officer took place on the night with Mella Winters (Taghmon guild) and Gretta O’Connor (Duncannon guild) elected jointly to the position.
Plans were discussed with regard to a number of forthcoming talks and visits including to venues like garden centres.
The winning guild in the Easter display of ‘ tulips in a clear glass container’ competition was Oylegate with the Maudlins and Inch guilds coming a close second and third.
Ms Connery thanked the outgoing committee and presented each member with a pot of beautiful carnations for their gardens. She herself was acknowledged for her work and dedication in leading the federation during her term and received a round of applause from those in attendance on the night.
The members are now looking forward to competing in the upcoming Special Occasion Competition which will be held next month and jointly hosted by Ballyfad and Killanerin guilds.
Some members of the Wexford organisation will be touring Kerry from Sunday, May 6, on a trip organised by Breda Whelan from the Kilmore guild.
