A RUN IN THE SUN!
IT was a glorious morning at Enniscorthy Sports Hub as over 100 people gathered to walk 5km with the goal of raising funds for a cuddle cot at Wexford General Hospital.
The goal was set by local charity Beneath My Angels Wings which provides help and support to parents who have suffered the devastating loss of a baby. They’ve been raising funds towards the installation of a cuddle cot at Wexford General for some time and were delighted to see so many people turn out in the sunshine to support their efforts.
The event was hosted by District Manager Liz Hore and was the brainchild of Alison Dwyer and Mag Owens. While everything was meticulously planned, they could hardly have an influence on the weather, however, fate smiled upon them and it was a glorious day as 110 people took off around the track.
Cllr John O’Rourke, speaking on behalf of the charity, thanked all the volunteers who played their part on the day and baked treats and made sandwiches. He thanked in particular O’Callaghan’s Centra in Templeshannon for the refreshments and Stafford’s Cakes in Gorey along with all the other local sponsors, as well as Sabrina Sludds who manned the catering tent for the day. In total, the event raised €788 for the cause and organisers are hoping it may now become an annual event.
Beneath My Angels Wings also hosted a draw outside of Pettitt’s Supervalu in the Duffry which raised a total of €805 towards the cause, with Marion O’Brien of Moran Park emerging as the lucky winner of the €100 prize. Again, organisers wished to thank everyone who contributed.
