High stakes in final with cracking race on cards

-

THIS THURSDAY night features the April Stakes final at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track, with a €3,000 first prize to the winner.

A cracking final is in prospect as we have the early pacers versus those who will be doing their best work from half way.

Owner Niamh Murphy from Ballinaboola has two runners, as has Kilkenny trainer Paul Hennessy who won both semi-finals with Zach Of Hearts and Jaytee Geronimo.

Ballinaboola Luke was a little unlucky behind Geronimo in his semi and looks the big local hope to keep the prize at home.

Mikey Blue and Tycoon Prince were closing rapidly on Jaytee in the first semi and are far from out of it.

Ballinaboola Mia completes the field but trap five is not ideal. A very good final is expected.

Race five, The 2018 April Stakes final: trap one, Mikey Blue; trap two, Zach of Hearts; trap three, Jaytee Geronimo; trap four, Ballinaboola Luke; trap five, Ballinaboola Mia; trap six, Tycoon Prince.

The Dinny Byrne Memorial A5/6 sweepstake second round also continues and it looks a good, competitive stake for the €2,000 first prize as there is only a few lengths between heat winners after the first round..

The Michael Foley Bursary Fund and Enniscorthy Rugby Club held their race night on Sunday week and there was a good turn-out for the ten-race card.

The Philip Tierney-owned and Ian Tierney-trained Bugatti Petite was the star of the week as she won race seven, an A3, in 29.06.

Then on Thursday night, as a reserve, she came in to race nine to power to the lead down the back straight and ran out a snug winner in 29.13.

Bugatti has now recorded 13 race wins with seven seconds and ten thirds from 44 runs.

Owner Joseph Walsh of Tomhaggard saw his Goquicksaysmick do just that as she was a very easy winner of race six, racing home eleven lengths clear of her field in a good 30.19 (550 yards).

Race ten saw Lochdara Jet enjoy a drop in grade as she raced to a clear win in a good 28.84 for owner Daniel Whelan.

Race three saw a nice veterans-type race, and it was the Seán Furlong-owned Martha Waits who proved the stronger, taking up the running between the lower bends to score a snug win in 29.43, her fifth career victory.

Around the tracks, the John Codd-owned Cushie Jet continued his best of night runs by winning his second round heat of the Red Mills Champion Unraced Stake at Kilkenny on Friday.

Up to Shelbourne Park and the Carol O’Connor (Ferns)-owned and Brendan Murphy-trained Rockmount Shane scored a fine win the final of the Gain Nutrition A2 Stake with a nice €1,250 winner’s prize. Rockmount finished well to get the verdict by a neck in a good 28.89.
