NEWGALLERYFOSTERS COMMUNITY SPIRIT
A new art gallery has opened in a building on the former Yola Farm near Tagoat with an exhibition by the artist Andi McGarry who will run the space in association with the nearby Yola Hedge School and Family Centre where he has volunteered as a community artist for the past decade.
Inspired by the tudor-style black beams and white walls, the attractive space with a studio upstairs, has been named the Geordie Gallery in deference to Andi’s Newcastle roots.
It will be open to the public on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday mornings and on other occasions by advance appointment.
The current exhibition which will continue until the end of May, is a collection of paintings and artist books created by Andi over the past few years which are available for sale. The gallery will encourage community art and the next exhibition will be by a talented pupil from Tagoat national school, followed by a group show during the summer and Opera Festival events in the autumn.
Andi extended a special thanks to Deirdre Doheny and Paul O’ Keeffe, two of the original founders of the farm for their support and assistance.
The Yola Hedge School and Family Centre has a play area for children which is currently being upgraded with the addition of new swings.
To reach the Geordie Gallery, turn left at Tagoat on the N25, turn right at the pink school and the road then curves to the left, there is a lane at the end of the road and you drive straight down the lane.
