CHARITY CYCLE

The annual Charity Cycle in aid of Crumlin Children’s Hospital will be leaving Kelly’s Pub, The Harrow for the round trip to Wexford town and back, on Monday, June 4, at 1.30 p.m. This event has raised over €140,000 for the hospital to date and if you are interested in taking part, please contact Josie Gahan at 087 6642057 for sponsorshi­p cards. This is always a great social event as well as raising funds for a very worthwhile cause.

SYMPATHY

Sincere sympathy is extended from all in Boolavogue to the family of the late John Jordan, Ballytrace­y, who died after a long illness, on Monday, April 30. Predecease­d by his son Owen RIP, he is survived by his wife Ro- saleen, son Eugene, sisters Irene and Catherine, brother Martin, siblings in Manchester, brotherin-law Willie, sisters-in-law Lilian and Violet, nieces, nephews relatives and many friends. His remains were removed from his residence on Wednesday, May 2, for Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. in St Cormac’s church with burial in the adjoining cemetery afterwards.

GAA LOTTO

The next draw for the Monageer-Boolavogue GAA lotto takes place tonight, May 15 at 9.30 p.m. in the New Clubhouse in Monageer.

The four numbers drawn in the last draw on May 1, were, 15, 25, 29 and 30 and as there was no winner, the jackpot for tonight’s draw has been increased to €3,950. The lotto, which is a great way to give continuing support to our local club and only costs €2 each fortnight or €10 for a book of six tickets.

GAA NEWS

On Tuesday last, May 8, our under-13 footballer­s beat Craanford in Monageer. The team, which is improving with each game, deserved their win and Niall Dolan was the player-of-thematch.

The previous week, the Rackard League hurlers notched up a second win, beating a combined team. The girls were also in action but lost out to the pick of Bunscoil Loreto in Gorey, one of the biggest schools in the county.

DANCE CLASS

Hotstep and jive is an exciting new style of dancing based on the jive from the 1950s. Classes in this type of dancing are running in Boolavogue hall every Friday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. No experience or partner required.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD

The Minister of the Word reading at the Vigil Mass on Saturday, May 19, is Caroline Farrington with Geraldine Doyle helping distribute Holy Communion. Ann O’Sullivan is reading at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning and Catherine Gahan is Minister of the Eucharist.

ANNUAL PATRON

The annual patron will take place in Boolavogue on Sunday, June 24. Depending on the weather, Mass will be celebrated in St Cormac’s cemetery at 3 p.m. or in the adjoining church if rain threatens. It will be followed by a field day with all the usual stalls, entertainm­ents and attraction­s.

SOCCER NEWS

On Sunday, May 6, the Men’s ‘B’ team who were at home to St Leonards, finished their season with a spectacula­r 6-1 win. Dean Fortune scored a hat-trick with Jamie Dempsey-Doyle, Liam Walsh and Joe Fitzgerald adding a gaol apiece. Thanks to this win, the lads finish mid-table.

Everyone in St Cormac’s would like to congratula­te Jamie Dempsey-Doyle on being selected as Youths Division 2 ‘Player of the Year’.
