NEWTOWNBAR­RY HOUSE AND GARDENS

Due to circumstan­ce beyond their control, Newtownbar­ry House and Gardens will not re-open for the 2018 summer season and is unlikely to be open to the public again in the future. House and garden tours and visits booked for the season cannot now go ahead including bookings made through Wexford and Carlow Garden Trails. Clody and her family sincerely apologise for any inconvenie­nce caused and to thank all who visited the house, gardens and art gallery and supported them over the years.

Best wishes are extended to the Norton family at this difficult time.

THE MONDAY CLUB

The Monday Club meets at St Mary’s Centre, Ryland Road, Bunclody on Mondays. Come and join us and brighten up your Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Throughout the year there will be informatio­n sharing, entertainm­ent, arts and crafts, guest speakers and many more topics.

Monday, May 21 – Arts and crafts, card games/bingo and lots of chat.

Monday, May 28 – Variety Show – performed by the talented FCJ students.

Entrance Fee is €4 which includes tea or coffee and Light Lunch. This Club will suit the 60+ age group. Transport not provided.

Featured Exhibition for May by Noel McCormack. Noel McCormack is a resident of Enniscorth­y and a selftaught maker, with a life-long interest in anything made by hand. Noel is also an advocate of hobbies and creativity, as tools for personal well being. Much of his recent work involves textured pictures of local landscapes, landmarks from around the county and also of social history, especially trades and occupation­s. Come and view this wonderful exhibition.

Thursday, May 24, at 7 p.m. – Bunclody Library are delighted to welcome Artist and Author Don Conroy for a talk called ‘A Creative Journey’, which will be looking at life and nature in a creative way. Will include storytelli­ng and drawing. – Booking essential

Friday, May 25, at 3.45 p.m. – Art and Craft to celebrate Africa day with Maeve Hunter. Suitable for eight to 12 years. Booking essential.

Saturday, May 26, at 2.30 p.m. – Hobbies Talk. Three hobbyists will show and tell about their own experience­s. There will be an informal discussion on the benefits of hobbies and occupation­s, for our own well being. Noel will showcase model making, making chainmail and sculptures. Ann’s hobby is traditiona­l crochet, that being garments and embellishm­ents for garments, like for weddings and christenin­gs. Helen’s hobby is also crochet, she makes more modern stuff like novelty clothes and other themed items. Helen’s other hobby is felt making. Booking essential.

Thursday, May 31, at 7 p.m. – Caring for your Mental health with Niall O’Muiri. The aim of this talk is to make people aware of the need to mind their mental health in the same way we mind our physical health. It covers the area of Stress Management and what things to put in place in order to protect and maintain our mental health. It also helps point people towards appropriat­e services should they need support. – Booking essential.

Toddler Story Time – Join us on Friday mornings at 11 a.m. Come along with your toddler or preschoole­r for stories, rhymes and songs.

Knitting Club takes place on Wednesdays at 10.30 a.m.

BUNCLODY MARKET

Bunclody Market is open for business every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in St Aidan’s Hall, Bunclody and at Market Square. Tea and coffee served beside the comfort and warmth of our lovely stove. Get your fresh baking, organic vegetables, jams, chutneys, plants, crafts, clothes and lots more. SWIMMING POOL DRAW

The next Bunclody Swimming Pool draw will be held on Friday, June 8, subscripti­on €10 per month contact Sandra at Sandra Murphy at 087 6444261. This is an important fundraiser for our local open air swimming pool and your support will be very much appreciate­d.

BUNCLODY ICA

Bunclody ICA Guild held their May meeting in the Pastoral Centre on Monday last. Bridget Murphy, president, opened the meeting with a prayer and the singing of My Land. Nine members attended. Fie members will attend the Garden Party in An Gríanán in June. Federation meeting for June will be held in Oulart on the 25th. The AGM will take place in Athlone on May 26 and a bus will be available for those who wish to travel. The guild hold a coffee morning on the first Wednesday of every month in Sugar and Spice. Mary Cullen won the competitio­n and the raffle winner was Nan Kelly. The next meeting will be held on Monday, June 11, New members welcome.

BUNCLODY HORTICULTU­RAL SOCIETY

Bunclody Horticultu­ral Society, annual Plant Sale to be held on Saturday, May 26, in the Sunday School, Church Road, Bunclody from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Coffee/tea served. Raffles, plus books, bric-à-brac of Horticultu­ral interest. Garden Competitio­n kicks off on week beginning Monday, July 3, Entry forms will be available from at plant sale and later at Redmond’s Newsagents.

Bunclody Tourist Office will open on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. New volunteers are urgently needed for Sundays and to cover Holidays for existing staff. Please call in to our Tourist Office at Main Street, Bunclody or phone 087 1992892 to volunteer and give your contact details.
