Plenty of fun in the sun at Oylegate Vintage Run!
THE beautiful weather created a wonderful atmosphere in Oylegate as finely restored and impeccably maintained tractors of every era rolled into the village to take part in the local Vintage Club’s annual road run.
The event is always a popular one on the calendar for enthusiasts and this one was no different as over 120 tractors from vintage clubs across the county arrived to take part. There were some stunning examples of machinery from days gone by and the judges had a difficult task in picking winners from them. Scooping the prize for Best Restored was Johnny Whitney of the Castle Vintage Club with his gleaming Ford Super Dexta. Meanwhile, Liam Butler of The Forge Vintage Club won Most Original for his TVO Farmall.
After heading out on the roads around Oylegate for a spin, participants returned for a slapup feed in the community centre and made the most of the sun.
This year’s run was in aid of the Oylegate Choir and organiser Henry Cosgrave is hopeful that it may have raised somewhere in the region of €1,500.
‘It was a great day out,’ he said. ‘Every club in the county was represented and there was a very high standard on the day. I’d like to thank all the clubs who came along and took part, as well as our sponsors, the ladies in the kitchen who cooked up a storm and all our stewards on the route, particularly the lads on the motorbikes.’
