Bettyville race meet Wednesday evening

- Stories behind the scenes

THERE IS a seven-race National Hunt card at Wexford racecourse at Bettyville on this Wednesday evening, with the first off at 5.45 p.m. and the closing bumper off at 8.45 p.m. There is some useful money to be picked up with €86,000 on offer.

The action starts with the €11,000 Welcome to Wexford Racecourse maiden hurdle over two and a half miles, followed at 6.15 p.m. by The Rosslare Mares’ handicap hurdle (80 to 109), worth €12,000 over the same distance.

The most valuable race of the evening is the €16,000 Slaney Handicap Hurdle over two miles, and they run over the same trip in the €10,000 Loch Garman handicap hurdle (80 to 95) at 7.15 p.m.

Action then switches to the bigger jumps for the two chases - the €12,000 Vinegar Hill Beginners over just more than three miles at 7.45 p.m., and the €15,000 Irish Stallion Farms EBF handicap over two miles.

The card concludes with the €10,000 The Racing Again June 6th bumper over two miles four furlongs.

Friday has traditionally been the most popular racing evening in Wexford so it will be very interesting to see how Wednesdays work out as there are two more of them to come on June 6 and 20.

It might be a chance for local punters to come directly to the track from work and avail of the Ivy Room and other dining facilities while enjoying the racing.
