HISTORICAL SOCIETY

A meeting of Old Kilnenor Historical Society will take place on this Thursday, May 24, at 8 p.m. in May Byrne Trust House Coolgreany. It is hoped to plan some trips during the summer. POSITIVE AGEING TOURS

Arklow Positive Ageing group will hold a day trip by bus to the Bloom Show on May 31, leaving Tesco car park the cost is €25. They above group are also organising a Coach Trip to Cobh Co. Cork on June 9, places to visit include Cobh Cathedral, The Titanic Museum in Cobh, and Shopping in Cork City, bus will leave Tesco Arklow at 8.30 a.m. Cost is Adults €20, and €10 for children under the age of 16 years. FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

St David’s Church Johnstown was a hive of activity on last Sunday morning for 10 a.m. First Holy Communion Mass where 10 children from Scoil Íosagáin Coolgreany under the supervisio­n of their teacher Ms Yvonne Regan, and 14 children from Scoil Phádraig Barnacleag­h under their teacher Mrs Yvonne Corbett, received their First Holy Communion.

Scoil Íosagain pupils included: Wesley Brogan, Alex Power Doyle, Darragh Byrne, Teegan Wolohan, Ava Graham, Callum Whitmore, Amy Foley, Aaron Keogh, Molly Preston, Maya D’Eathe.

Scoil Phádraig pupils were: Annie Breslin, Siún Byrne, Robyn Cummins, Ava Doyle, Darby Guilfoyle, Zara Merrigan, Grace Foster, Elsa Byrne, George Clune, Jack Curran, summer Doyle, Doireann Malone, John O’Reilly, Ryan Mellon.

Special thanks to Fr Michael Murtagh, and the two teachers for their great efforts in the preparatio­n of all the children for their special day.

STRANGE VEHICLES

There has been a influx of English registered vans around the local area for the past number of days, who are selling tools etc. please be observant and report anything unusual to the local gardaí at Gorey: 053 9430690.

GOOD WISHES

We would like to wish all those people in our community, who are ill in Hospitals or may be convalesci­ng at home, a very speedy recovery to full health and hope you are all out and about soon.

BIRTHDAYS

Birthday greetings to Cian Malone, Askinch, who will celebrate his 10th birthday this Friday, May 25, also good wishes to Cian Doyle, Kilcarra, whose 10th birthday is on Monday, May 28.

TIDY TOWNS

The local community are making a very big effort to clean all roads around the village in preparatio­n for the Tidy Towns Competitio­ns which will start around early June. It is with all the local support that better results can be achieved when the adjudicati­on is completed, and the committee are appealing for more help to keep the work going, and for all householde­rs to make a big effort in front of their own homes over the next number of weeks.

HANDBALL LOTTO

Coolgreany Handball lotto now stands at €5,300, lotto tickets are available in Jim Short’s, Coolgreany post office, O’Rafferty’s. and Liam Clare Snr. A new prize format is now in place, with seven lucky dips worth €30 each and one Seller’s prize. There was one lucky-dip winner last week: Denise Jackson Croghan View, Coolgreany. Your support is very much appreciate­d by the club.
