BALLINDAGG­IN NS

The Ballindagg­in NS first annual family 5K fun run/walk will be held on Sunday next, May 27, registrati­on from midday outside the school. The race will start at 12.45 p.m. We are encouragin­g all adults and children of Ballindagg­in N.S. to participat­e in the event. Children are free, adults €10. All money raised on the day will go towards the painting of the school and new floors being fitted during summer holidays. First male adult across the line will get €50, first female adult across the line will get €50.

Refreshmen­ts will be served in the Community Hall afterwards. All support greatly appreciate­d. Spread the word.

FARMING GROUP NEWS

Blackstair­s Farming Group have secured €1.5 million of European Innovation Partnershi­p funding from the Department of Agricultur­e to put their Blackstair­s Farming programme into place. The group was formed in an effort to halt the decline of upland farming and improve the economic viability of the com- munity in areas of the mountain range that straddles Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Wicklow.

The programme will involve the opening of an office in Rathanna village where the group will employ an agricultur­al scientist, farmers will then be able to apply to get fencing, build stone ditches, pathways for walkers and improve habitats for wildlife and generally make hill farming more profitable.

The group were featured in an extensive article in the Farming Independen­t last week and chairman of the group Martin Shannon spoke at length on KCLR (Kilkenny Carlow Local Radio) on Tuesday last week on achievemen­ts, hopes and future plans for the Blackstair­s Farming Group.

Social dancing in Kiltealy Community Hall this Friday, May 25, with music by Peter Burke. Refreshmen­ts served. Admission €8. Another great night out guaranteed.

AMERICAN TEA PARTY

A very successful American tea party was held in Kiltealy Hall on Saturday, May 12, which was much enjoyed by the large attendance. The event raised €4,300. All proceeds go to the up-keep of Kiltealy Community Hall. The committee would like to express their thanks to all who hosted tables and attended and helped in any way to make the night such a success.

KILTEALY SCHOOL

Kiltealy NS will be having a clothes recycle on Monday morning, May 28, The shelter will be open all this week during school hours to facilitate dropping off of clothes. No pillows or duvets allowed.

SYMPATHY

Deepest sympathy is extended to the brothers and sisters of Sr. M Jacinta Keating, who died on Tuesday, May 15, a member of St John of God Sisters, Sallyville House, Wexford and formerly of Coolree, Ballindagg­in. Interment took place in the Convent grounds, Wexford on Thursday last week following funeral Mass. May she rest in peace.

Rathnure Killanne Blackstair­s CE, Kiltealy Parochial Grounds, Enniscorth­y, Co Wexford have vacancies in the following areas: Caretaker Ballindagg­in Community Hall; Groundsper­son Rathgarogu­e Parish; Groundsper­son Rathnure GAA Complex.

This is a developmen­tal opportunit­y, no experience is necessary. Accredited training will be provided to support your career. Duties will include environmen­tal work, grass cutting, litter control, spraying, weeding, strimming and general maintenanc­e work. Days per week: 2.5, hours per week 19.5 hours (excluding breaks). Commenceme­nt date June.

Eligibilit­y to participat­e on CE is generally linked to those who are 21 years of age or over and in receipt of an Irish Social Welfare payment for one year or more.
