- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

HAVING served in the role for two years, Catriona Murphy finished out her last day as CEO of Enniscorthy Chamber without too much fanfare recently. Over the course of her two year contract, Catriona was instrumental in establishing the Chamber Office in Portsmouth House and saw a massive increase in Chamber membership across the District.

‘I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved in the two years I’ve been here,’ she said. ‘During my time, the membership has grown from 32 members to 122 members and I’d like to thank all those new members for investing in the fu- ture of Enniscorthy. It has been a fantastic learning opportunity and it was a fantastic community to work amongst. It wasn’t without it’s challenges, but I’ve never been one to shy away from a challenge.’

Taking a hands-on approach, Catriona staged a total of 27 Chamber events in the past year alone and took a major interest in the implications of schemes such as the Templeshannon Regeneration Plan, the bypass, the flood relief scheme and the new business and technology park. She has also overseen the promise of a major investment in the Old Dublin Road, something vital to business life in the town.

Although departing, Catriona feels that Enniscorthy still has great potential.

‘ The town certainly has the potential to go in the right direction,’ she said. ‘We are only a year away from the bypass and we have to embrace that with a positive attitude and prepare. The economic strategy that the council has put together, 50% of it is dedicated to Enniscorthy. It’s now time for businesses and business owners to invest in the town’s future too.’

While it is unclear if the role of CEO of Enniscorthy & District Chamber will be filled at any point in the near future, local business- man Jimmy Gahan has been taken on in what has been described as ‘an interim role’ as ‘Development Officer’ at the Chamber Office.

Speaking on Catriona’s departure, Chamber President Maree Lyng thanked her for all her hard work.

‘Enniscorthy & District Chamber Executive and Board members made a presentation to Ms. Catriona Murphy at a recent reception held to thank her for all her work and for all she achieved during the term of her two year contract as CEO of Enniscorthy & District Chamber,’ she said.

‘Catriona was instrumental in setting up the Chamber Office in Templeshannon and she has achieved many milestones during her term of office. Enniscorthy & District Chamber Executive and Board members wish to extend their best wishes to Catriona and wish her every success in her life and career going forward.’
