Theresa loved to open up her home to friends, family and neighb ours

-

THERE was great sadness locally following the recent passing of Theresa Binions (née O’Connor) (81) of Ballyshane, Camolin. Theresa was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Noel two and a half years ago and was a well-liked and well-respected member of her local community.

A native of the Derry, the Ballagh, Theresa was born to parents Edwards and Ellen O’Connor. She was known as a real lady to all who knew her. A gentle and caring soul, she was said to see the best in everyone she encountered and had a warm and kind nature. She never failed to open up her home to visitors and you were always welcomed in for a cup of tea if you called to the door, her house being regarded as a ‘ home from home’ for countless others.

Theresa was a quiet and unassuming lady who enjoyed her home and lived for her family, neighbours and friends. She was a very sociable person and greatly valued people paying her a visit. Countless hours were spent chatting over a nice cuppa, where she was often heard to utter what almost became a catchphrase: ‘you never meet the likes of him/her’. Theresa also loved to get out into the garden and she could often be seen pottering around and looking after her plants.

A huge crowd came to pay their respects, both at Theresa’s wake and at her funeral mass in Camolin, which was conducted by Parish Priest Fr Joe Kavanagh and assisted by Fr Rory Nolan Parish Priest at Rathanna. It was a poignant ceremony and the large attendance was evidence of the high esteem in which she was held by all who knew her. She was laid to rest afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Theresa is survived by her loving daughter Barbara Brennan (Borris) and sons John (Ballyshane) and Alfie (Tramore). She was also a loving grandmother to Emma, Charlie and Milo and is also missed by her son-in-law Jay, daughters-in-law Norin and Emer; sisters Katie, Elizabeth and Maryann and brothers Pat and Eddie. She is predeceased by her sisters Maggie, Breda and Alice. Theresa is also mourned by her nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends. May she rest in peace.
