Enniscorth­y was the venue for the hugely competitiv­e Leinster Juvenile relay championsh­ips. A fantastic 47 St. Joseph’s athletes comprising 13 teams proudly wore the green and white in a great day’s competitio­n, with seven teams qualifying for finals.

A wonderful gold medal performanc­e was turned in by the boys’ Under-16 team of Danny Glennon, Eoin Kennedy, Evan O’Toole, Jordan Knight and Cathal Beirne who are now Leinster champions.

Coming close to emulating the boys were the girls’ Under-15 team of Rachel Foley, Katie Taylor, Ciara Mullally and Erin Foley who finished a valiant third in their final.

The girls’ Under-9, Under-13 and Under-14 teams all ran great heats to qualify for finals but finished outside the medals.

Those teams comprised the following athletes: Dearbhla Ryan, Isobel Griffin, Saorlaith Mullally, Rachel Murphy, Eabha Mullally, Grace Glennon, Mairéad Mullally, Breanna Beirne, Aoife Lanigan, Rachel Foley and Holly O’Toole.

Not to be outdone, the boys’ Under-11 and Under-12 teams also ran splendidly to qualify for finals but did not make the top three positions. These teams consisted of: Ciarán Cummins, Kyle Bolger, Barry Furlong, Joss O’Connor, Conor Lanigan and James Cummins.

Six other club relay teams ranging from Under-10 to Under-17 also ran their hearts out but, competing against clubs from all over Leinster, failed to qualify for finals.

The following athletes ran on those teams: Rachel Murphy, Saorlaith Mullally, Mairéad McDonald, Aisleann Mullally, Jack Barron, Kyle Bolger, Mikey Ryan, Hugh Beirne, Lily Ryan, Caoimhe Connolly, Sarah Foley, Megan Doyle, Kadhla Croke, Eimear McDonald, Keelin Byrne, Eabha Mullally, Áine McDonald, Katie Taylor, Naoimh O’Connor, Erin Foley, Ciara Mullally, Chloe Mullally, Hannah Roche, Tara Glennon.

The fact that the club could even field two girls’ Under-11 teams demonstrat­es the extent of the St. Joseph’s commitment in Enniscorth­y, with the vast majority of Juvenile athletes in the club turning out to wear the singlet. Thank you to all coaches and parents.

It was another great day for St. Joseph’s at the second day of the county track and field championsh­ips in Kilkenny.

Jordan Knight displayed his versatilit­y, winning gold in 200m, 800m and long jump, and teaming up with Evan O’Toole, Eoin Kennedy and Jamie O’Connor to win relay gold.

Katie Taylor won individual gold in the sprint and relay gold with teammates Erin Foley, Ciara Mullally and Sophie Mullally.

Three more gold medal winners in 400m, 500m and 800m respective­ly were Joss O’Connor, Linda Lawlor and Grace Glennon. Linda was also third in the Under-19 sprint and Joss also won bronze in the 80m sprint and joined Conor Lanigan, James Cummins, Ciarán Cummins and Barry Furlong to win relay bronze medals.

Grace also finished second in the 100m and collected relay silver with Rachel Foley, Sara May Walsh and Caitlín Mullally.

Evan O’Toole won gold and silver in the long jump and 200m. Eoin Kennedy won three individual silver medals, with silver also won by Rachel Murphy, Eabha Mullally, Erin Foley, Ciara Mullally and Caitlin Mullally.

An individual bronze medal was won by Sarah Foley. A relay silver med- al was won by the girls’ Under-10 team of Rachel Murphy, Aisleann Mullally, Saorlaith Mullally and Isabella Murphy.

Unlucky not to win a medal were the Under-12 and Under-14 realay teams consisting of Sarah Foley, Eabha Mullally, Lily Ryan, Lily Doyle, Mairéad Mullally, Holly O’Toole, Aoife Lanigan and Kaylan Doyle.

In a particular­ly busy period for all athletes, four club athletes headed to Kilkenny again for the Leinster combined events championsh­ips.

Fantastic gold medals were won by Jordan Knight and Evan O’Toole, with Katie Taylor and Grace Glennon both finishing in valiant fifth positions.

Erin Foley travelled all the way to Castleisla­nd in Kerry for the Munster schools track and field championsh­ips but made the trip worthwhile in finishing fifth in the Junior girls’ long jump, with a new personal best of 4.61m.

At the Leinster schools championsh­ips in Dublin, Evan O’Toole was sixth in the Junior boys’ high jump, clearing 1.60m. Jordan Knight won bronze in the boys’ Under-16 200m.

On the road, Sally Forristal was first lady home in the Ardmore 5 Mile race in Waterford in a superb personal best time of 29.44. Stephen O’Connor also ran well, finishing in 33.24.

In the Splashworl­d 10k in Tramore, Patrick Bookle finished first Over-50 in 40.13. In the Kilkenny 8k road race, Patrick Bookle again finished first Over-50 in a time of 30.53.
