E’CORTHY HOCKEY

-

A fortnight ago Andrew Rothwell was in action for the Leinster Junior side at the interprovincial tournament in Cork, and a number of members of the successful Under-16 girls’ team will be hoping to emulate Andrew’s achievement following their nomination for the South East summer performance squad after a number of assessments and trials.

The group - with strong Enniscorthy sideline participation (Donal Doyle as head coach along with Alan Smith and Ivanna Yates as assistants and Alex Doyle as manager) will be cut from 32 down to 18 by August, before the interprovincial tournament takes place in September.

Kate Freeman, Faye Codd, Rebecca Doyle, Leah Kidd, Amy Murphy, Beibhinn O’Brien and Rebecca Ogilvie will all be hoping to be on that final panel.

After a strong year on the pitch for Enniscorthy Hockey Club, Mervyn Rogan and Graham Hill - captains of our Under-14 boys and men’s first XI teams - collected their respective trophies on Friday as the Leinster Hockey Association held its champions awards night at the Talbot Hotel in Stillorgan.
