UNITED STRIDERS A.C.

-

The Mr Oil Senior men’s and wom- en’s county Wexford road championships took place in Murrintown recently. Event hosts Wexford Marathon Club chose a rather testing route which included a long 1.5k uphill drag.

The ladies raced over 5k and Beth O’Connor, the sole U.S.A.C. representative, raced really well to finish comfortably inside the top half of the field.

The Striders were very well represented in the 10k men’s race and, with the whole squad running really well, it was no surprise that they were right in the mix for the team medals.

Led home by teenager Aedan Rogers, in a very impressive fourth place, the Striders team took second spot in the team event, a mere four points behind the winners, S.B.R. Alan O’Connor, John McGrath and Brendan Lyng completed the team, with all finishing inside the top ten.

George Delaney, who the previous week won the Wexford Novice title, placed eleventh, ahead of Seán Murphy, Paul Doran, Pat O’Callaghan, John Kent, Paul Colfer, Colm Stafford, Anthony Sinnott and Emmett Malone. It was a fantastic effort from all, so well done.

The U.S.A.C. Juvenile sprinters were in action in the Leinster relay championships at Enniscorthy.

The under-age boys had two teams competing and both performed really well, with the Under-15s winning silver and the Under-17s winning bronze.

The girls fielded three teams, from Under-17 up to the Junior age group, and did really well, picking up two medals and a close up fourth place in the remaining event.

Well done to all teams who were very well drilled and performed to a really high standard.

Finally, well done to Aine Walsh who was our sole competitor at the Leinster Masters multi-event championships. Aine scooped a silver medal and registered a number of P.B’s along the way.
