COURTOWN LADIES

Dare we mention the good weather we’ve had and the welcome return of many ladies to the golf course. It has been a long and wet spring and it’s absolutely fabulous to see so many members out playing again. Long may these good days last.

It has been a busy week for Courtown ladies, with Tuesday, May 22, being sponsored by Jim Casey, formerly of Hairstop Hair Salon, which has been revamped and rebranded as Kubez. We wish the new owner the best of luck in the future.

We sincerely wish Jim the best of luck in his future and thank him for his sponsorship over the years. The prizes as usual were fantastic. Lorna and Bernie from the salon were on hand to present the prizes on Jim’s behalf.

Thursday, May 24, brought a re-scheduled competition sponsored by Pettitt’s SuperValu who have been sponsoring golf for many years now for which Courtown ladies are extremely grateful.

The weekend before last saw Courtown ladies return to Senior Cup participation. Our team and caddies set off for New Forrest for an 8 a.m. start on Saturday morning.

They gave The Heath (who eventually won the Senior Cup) a great match, losing out by a putt on the 18th. The afternoon match was an equally tight affair, with the deciding match losing on the 17th. Well done team and caddies.

Wednesday saw our Junior foursomes, managed by Laura Funge, head to Coollattin to play Castlecomer. A very tight match evolved with the deciding pair going to the 19th before a winner was declared. Luckily for us, Courtown ladies took the victory. Well done Laura and team.

June 5 brings a ladies’ open day in Courtown which will be sponsored by Joe Butler and Ingrid Ashmore-Butler of Middletown Nursing Home. The timesheet for this event is now open, so get your name down if you’d like to play.
