COUR TOWN LADIES

We had a few very busy weeks in Courtown. Our ladies returned to the golf course, helped no doubt by the beautiful weather and conditions of the course. Roll on the long, hot summer days.

Saturday, May 26, saw Irene Poole and the Boyne Trophy team play Enniscorthy in the first round. Enniscorthy are always tough competitors and this was no different.

The five pairings on both sides fought a tight match, with Courtown finally emerging with the win. Well done everybody.

Sunday, May 27, saw Carlow arrive in Courtown to contest the Cullen Cup. Once again the matches were tightly contested, with the decider going all the way to the 18th. There was a lot of nail biting before Courtown took the spoils.

Azure Health and Beauty Salon sponsored the competition on Tuesday, May 29. Helen and Ciara arrived on Tuesday evening to present the prizes and to pamper the ladies who took part.

Nails were painted and eyebrows shaped in the clubhouse. Everybody enjoyed the event.

On the golf course it had been a different kind of day. The greens had been treated to another coat of sand and were a tad difficult to manage, but that did not deter our ladies.

Some great golf was played. Despite the sand, a rare and wonderful occurrence happened on May 14. Barbara Long was the lucky lady who scored a hole-in-one. Congratulations Barbara.

Results: 1, Mary Cooper (30), 36 points; 2, Eileen Cullen (19), 35 points (countback); 3, Caroline Dale (30), 35 points; Cat. A, Ann Bernie (18), 32 points; Cat. B, Anne Duggan (26), 34 points; Cat. C, Breda Nolan (35), 32 points.

The nine-hole competition was won by Bríd Lillis (36) with 15 points on cuntback. Second was Ann Morgan (29) with 15 points.

Thursday, May 31, saw Mary Osborne and the Challenge Cup team head to Wexford to play Tramore in the third round of the championship.

Despite a great comeback in the deciding match, our ladies lost to a very strong Tramore team. Congratulations to the Tramore ladies. We hope you do really well in the championship.

Open week timesheets are available through the club website or the club app. Some days are already heavily booked, so hurry if there is a particular day or competition in which you would like to play.

COURTOWN

There have been some mixed fortunes for some of our club teams since our last report. Our Barton Cup team had a very close match with New Ross, and in the end it all came down to the last match in New Ross where Courtown were beaten on the 19th hole.

Our Duggan Cup team, however, had a much better result playing Bunclody where we won seven and a half to two and a half, making Courtown the county champions.

They now go on to meet with Callan in the next round. Once again we say well done to all our members who go out to represent the club whatever the outcome might be.

Congratulations to our Provincial Towns Challenge Cup team which defeated Arklow on a scoreline of 5.5 to 3.5. Some very tight battles saw three games having to go beyond the regulation 18 holes, but some great golf in the closing holes in Arklow and at home in Enniscorthy saw us over the line.
