FUN AND GAMES FOR NURSING HOME WEEK
THERE was plenty of fun in the sun at Enniscorthy’s nursing homes recently as they took part inn National Nursing Home Week.
A national initiative, it sees staff and residents undertake a week of fun-filled activities and celebrates the positivity of nuring home care. Both the Moyne Nursing Home and Lawson House were delighted to take part and their residents had a busy week.
In the Moyne, they hosted an Alzheimers coffee morning which saw family members and people from the local commuity arrive for a cuppa and chat. There was also an animal roadshow, which saw all kinds of cute creatures arrive at the home, along with flower arranging and cookery demos.
Finally, the week concluded with a sports day, which had all kinds of activities and made the most of the fine weather, with Mr Mac’s Ice Cream Van even coming along!
‘The residents absolutely loved it,’ said organier Elaine Murphy. ‘It was a very busy week, but they’re all still talking about it, so that’s a positive sign!’
Over at Lawson House, it was similarly busy. From painting with toddlers from Bright Beginnings and playing musical bingo to making pizza and enjoying line dancing, the residents had a ball. Among the highlights were a performance from the renowned Irish Elvis, which got everyone going, and a hotly contested game of bowls against Enniscorthy Men’s Shed.
‘The competition was fierce alright,’ said Ann Dreelan, one of the orgnanisers. ‘We have some very good players here, but after a tough game the Men’s Shed emerged as winners. The whole week was great fun though and everyone enjoyed it. The fine weather was perfect.’
Speaking of fine weather, the Lawson House crew made the most of it with a trip to Courtown to round the week off with an ice cream cone and a bit of summer sunshine.
