Sticking the kettle on for Motor Neurone Disease

-

PEOPLE flocked to Mernagh’s Bar in Oylegate from all over recently to raise funds for an extremely worthy cause in the form of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA). The event was organised by Sarah Mackey, Linda Thorpe and Evelyn Moulton and saw people come from all over Enniscorthy and Oylegate to enjoy a cuppa and some sweet treats.

Sarah’s mother-in-law, Mary Mackey, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in January of 2017 and since then, she and her family have received wonderful help from the IMNDA.

‘She does have a very difficult road ahead of her,’ Sarah said of her mother-in-law. ‘It has progressed quite quickly unfortunately. But the IMNDA have been absolutely fantastic in the support they provide. They have a nurse, Kate, who calls into Mary and helps her in any way she can and helps to provide equipment such as wheelchairs and a special iPad so she can communicate. They’ve been so good and we just wanted to give something back by raising money for them. They rely heavily on fundraising and it accounts for 82% of their funding, so we were delighted to help and we wanted to have it as close to MND Awareness Day on June 21 as we could.’

With Mary being a well-known lady in the Enniscorthy area, quite a few people made the journey south to Oylegate for the event and the locals were also out in force. The event managed to raise a total of €2,970 for the cause and the organisers were absolutely over the moon. They wished to thank everyone who came along and supported the event in any way.
