EXPLOSION OF COLOUR FROM ICA’S YARN BOMB!

- By PADRAIG BYRNE

MOTORISTS passing through Oylegate on the busy N11 have been doing a double-take following an explosion of colour in the village thanks to the creative hands of the local ICA Guild.

The fourteen ladies who make up the guild have been busy ‘yarn bombing’ the village with intricate and hand-sewn and knitted items dotted all over the place.

Among the more noticeable elements are fully knitted covers for the benches at either side of the village, some colourful fashions being sported by ladies on the ICA statue and a beautifully decorated tree complete with ‘pom poms’.

‘Initially all of the guilds in Wexford were supposed to do it in the Bullring in Wexford for International Women’s Day,’ said Breda Cody of Oylegate ICA.

‘Unfortunately at the time though, the weather was very bad and we didn’t get to do it, so a lot of the guilds decided to do their own thing and we decided to spread a bit of colour around the village.’

The ladies have certainly succeeded in that and their work has been a great source of amusement for passing motorists. Breda says that they will leave the decorations out for as long as the fine weather allows, which will hopefully be for another while yet!
