Lending a helping hand – Glenbrien kids donate communion money
STUDENTS from Glenbrien NS were determined to finish the school year with some charitable acts for some worthy causes. Firstly, having recently celebrated their first Holy Communion, second class pupils decided to donate some of their communion money to charity. Last year the pupils donated to the Jack and Jill Foundation and this year it was decided that ICAN - the Irish Children’s Arthritis Network - were to be the beneficiaries.
ICAN provide a national support network for children with arthritis and their families through the provision of practical and emotional support, with over 1,000 children and teenagers in Ireland battling the condition. The kids were only to happy to help and they handed over a cheque for €215 from the class to Susan Bell Flavin from ICAN. She was extremely grateful to the children and remarked that it was a large amount of money from just fourteen pupils.
In addition to this, pupils from the school also handed over a cheque for €180 to the Wexford Homeless Appeal. The money was raised through a Christmas jumper day held in the school in December which everyone contributed to. Tony from the Wexford Homeless Ap- peal was present to receive the cheque, presented by the outgoing sixth class students, and he explained how the money would be able to cover the cost of three tents and sleeping bags.
