Best foot forward for Tombrack NS 5k

-

IT was a busy end of year period for Tombrack NS as the school hosted a 5km family fun from Ferns Castle, in addition to launching their new state of the art astroturf pitch paid for through tireless fundraising by the school community.

The community were once again out in force as they took to the roads around Ferns for the fun run which saw entries from young and old and a wonderful atmosphere at the start and finish lines.

‘We had a huge turnout,’ said outgoing Principal Alice Doyle. ‘In the weeks building up to it we were running a couch to 5k and a whole lot of parents got involved. That was run by our secretary Frances Murphy and Pat Creane both of whom did a great job and I’d say we definitely must be one of the fittest schools in the country at this stage!’

There were great prizes up for grabs on the day and as well as solo runners, there were father and son, mother and daughter and family groups taking part and crossing the line together.

Ms Doyle wished to thank everyone who took part and everyone who contributed to making the run such a success. It is hoped that it will now become an annual event.
