WEXFORD

-

Last weekend we had our Captain’s (Jackie Lynn) prize which was very well supported, with 286 members competing to qualify for one of the 33 slots (30 nett and three gross) in the nine-hole play-off on Sunday evening.

The scores were much tighter that previous years, with only four shots separating the top 30 nett players.

Martin Scallan (13), Pat ‘Kenny’ Walsh (12), Jonathan Walsh (12) and James Murphy (11), all with 70 nett, were the top qualifiers after the first 18 holes, and the three gross qualifiers were Mark Goodison (81), Martin Walsh (81) and Rhys Clarke (82).

A former Captain, current executive committe member and trustee of the club, Pat ‘Kenny’ Walsh, was the winner of Jackie Lynn’s Captain’s prize with a total score of 105. ‘Ken- ny’ has been a great servant of our club over many years and it would be hard to imagine a more popular winner.

In addition to the Captain’s prize, ‘Kenny’ also won the green jacket sponsored by Paul Harrington which is presented each year to the winner of this major tournament.

Pascal Kavanagh (11), a former winner of the Captain’s prize in 1996, was in second place just half a stroke behind with 105.5. Third was James Murphy (12) with 107.
