Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Susan Hillard, Raheengraney, who died during the week, her remains were removed from McCrea’s funeral home Carnew on Tuesday to Clonegal for 2 p.m. Mass followed by burial in the adjoining grave yard. To the family and relatives of Harry Pollard, Hacketstown, who died during the week. To the family and relatives of Séamie Doran, The Burrows, who died last week, his remains were removed to Askamore for 11 a.m. Mass followed by burial in the adjoining church yard.
BACK ALLEY DEVELOPMENT
The committee would like to thank the two local National Schools for the children’s poster designs in our recent competition for playground rules. Thanks to Victor Young for the prize vouchers. Congratulations to Jay Molloy, Laoise Doran Scoil Aodan Naofa and to Sydney Sharpe All Saints on their art work. Well done to all the boys and girls for their ideas and suggestions.
COFFEE MORNING
All are invited to come along and support the next fundraiser to develop the Back Alley. A coffee morning will be held in the Old Butchers on the Main Street, Carnew on Saturday July 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., all welcome. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.
CABARET
There is a Cabaret in aid of local people with MS on July 6 in Parkview House, Shillelagh music by Jimmy Hogan and Lar Kenny, admission €5 from Siobhain Eade or on the door.
PATRONS
The annual patrons in Carnew and Tomacork is on Sunday, July 15, at 1.15 and 2 p.m., people are advised to come early. The usual field day will take place and donations of cakes, produce, items for the bottle stall and bricà-brac in good condition are most welcome.

SPLIT THE POT
The winner of Scoil Aodan Naofa Carnew split-the-pot on June 22 was Laura Doyle winning €184. The last split-the-pot for the summer was on the 29th.
GET WELL MASS
A very special get well Mass for Robert Nolan will be held in Killavaney Church on Saturday, July 14, at 7.30 p.m. Join Rev Raymond Gahan and Fr Pat O’Brien and the Talbotstown/ Tynock singers for this special Mass for Robert’s recovery, all are welcome donation box at the door for Robert.
RINGS TOURNAMENT
A mixed doubles rings tournament will be held on July 6 in Kenny’s Lounge, Carnew at 9 p.m. in aid of the Robert Nolan fund. Robert is a young guy who is suffering from Lymes Disease and is need of treatment. Raffle on the night prizes welcome.
BALLOON BURST
A Balloon burst will take place on Monday, August 6, at 5 p.m. in Murphys Tinahely, two balloons will contain €250 plus lots of other prizes, tickets €5 available from any of the committee, all proceeds towards the Robert Nolan fund.
TINAHELY WALKERS
Our Wicklow Way walks continue with the following: On Sunday, July 8, the walk is from Glenmalure to Glendalough. Grade A, 15km, five hours, meeting at 9.15 a.m., Glenmalure. On Sunday, July 15, the walk is from Glendalough to Luggala Gates. Grade A, 17km, five hours, meeting at 9.15 a.m., Glendalough. Buses are being hired as appropriate.

KILRUSH DRAMA GROUP
As part of the programme of events planned to welcome our Canadian visitors who are coming to the area from July 14 to July 21 in conjunction with the Canadian/Coolattin Connection, Kilrush Drama Group under the direction of Mick Byrne will present ‘Flight to Grosse Ile’ an award winning play by Nenagh schoolteacher, Jim Minogue – which deals with various aspects of the Great Famine of the 1840s.
This is a most ambitious production and is about an Irish family forced to emigrate to Canada at the height of the Great Famine. There are over 50 characters involved in this production which is a moving portrayal of the journeys undertaken by Irish emigrants in their quest for a new life at the other side of the atlantic.
The cast includes actors, musicians, singers and dancers. Playing the two main lead roles are Timmy Connaughton and Kate Power with a huge back up of supporting actors including, Jimmy Spellacy, Lar Duffy, Martin Hayden, Maurice Ruth, Garry Lombard, Kieran Tyrell, John Young, Fergus Garrett, Séamus Burnell, Richard Kimmons, Margaret Nolan and Eddie McGlynn to name just a few. Paddy Byrne on sound is playing a key role in the preparations as most of the dialogue and music is being pre-recorded. Paddy’s expertise in this area is paramount to the success of the production. Another key element of the production is the music for which Lar Duffy is responsible. Also paramount to the production is the lighting for which Kevin McEvoy’s expertise will come into play.
The costume department for the huge cast, comprise Jacinta Kavanagh, Cathy Tighe, Alyssa Henbridge, Mary Doyle and Louise Fox. Jacinta and Cathy are also in the cast along with Anne Sheridan, Mary Jo Byrne and Mary Doran. Some of the younger members of the cast include Cora Tyrell, Olivia Matthews, Aoife and Caitlin Clauson.
The play/pageant will be staged in St Brigid’s Hall Carnew on July 19 and 20. Admission: €10.
CARNEW MUSICAL SOCIETY
Further auditions for Carnew Musical Society’s production of My Fair Lady will take place in St Brigid’s Hall, Carnew this coming Friday July 6. The production will take place in St Brigid’s Hall from Monday, November 26 – Saturday, December 1.
