Woman jailed for breach of order

-

PERSISTENTLY breaching a safety order taken out by her ex- husband has resulted in a prison sentence for Helen Murphy ( 50) of 10 St Aidan’s Villas, Enniscorthy.

The court heard that the latest incident took place on July 28 of last year in Templeshannon where the injured party, Jason Murphy, works as a doorman. The defendant was refused entry to the premises and attacked Mr Murphy, hitting him in the head.

Solicitor Lana Doherty said that her client was unaware that Mr Murphy was working that night and would’ve avoided town had she known. She said that Helen Murphy had taken the break- up of their marriage very hard and that they had been together since they were 16.

She said that she had suffered a nervous breakdown as a result of the break- up and that she no longer goes into Enniscorthy town at night. Ms Doherty asked for one final chance for her client.

Judge Staunton pointed out that Murphy had a minimum of four previous convictions for breach of a barring order and said that a custodial sentence was ‘ unavoidable’.

He handed her a nine month prison sentence and she wept as she was led away by gardaí.
