Judge does not accept motorist’s story that his wife was driving

-

Patrick Donovan from Ballynamona, The Ballagh failed to avoid a motoring conviction by telling Judge Kevin Staunton that he was not the person behind the wheel of a speeding car.

Donovan was prosecuted as the registered owner of the vehicle timed at 81 km/h in the 60 km/h zone at Ardcavan on October 29 last.

He attended the District Court to state that he was working at the time of the detection.

Quizzed by the judge, he suggested that his wife might have been the person responsible.

The judge was reminded that it is a simple matter to fill out a nomination form.

The conviction was recorded, with a fine of €200. The matter was formally adjourned until September for production of Donovan’s licence.
