TAGHMONSOCIETY

-

The society went to Wexford G.C. on May 26 on a windy and cool day where 40 players battled the blustery conditions.

Due to prior commitments in the afternoon, the eventual winner had to play early at 6.30 a.m., and if we had known that it was going to be the winning score (finished before the rest of us started), then we need not have bothered!

It was a case of the early bird getting the worm. In this case it definitely was a bird, our very own prize turkey, our Joe.

Results: 1, Joe Cashin (28), 35; 2, Seán Sexton (14), 33; 3, George Dee (28), 33; Cat. 1, Edward Cousins (6), 33; Cat. 2, Nicky Murphy (18), 33; Cat. 3, Donie O’Brien (22), 31; front nine, Kevin Bradley (18), 18; back nine, Tom O’Gorman (16), 19; nearest the pin (ninth), Philip Wadding; visitor, Liam Walsh. There was one winner of the twos club, Anthony Wadding (yawn), who received €76.

As you all know, we are heading for The Heritage Golf Resort in September for a long overdue weekend away. Deposits or full payments will be collected at the next outing.

There are a limited number of places so book early to avoid disappointment. The new society tee-shirts and half tops are now available to order. If you want one, contact Ballor.

The next outing is in Faithlegg G.C. on July 28 starting at 11 a.m., and it is Captain Rorys’ big day, the one everyone wants to win.

It’s his old home course but there’s no advantage to be had seeing as he cannot win his own prize, but it is the day of his golfing comeback after the recent operation.

Our homebase pub proprietor, Dolores Sydney of Alice Brady’s pub in Main Street, Taghmon, is sponsor, and the Captain’s dinner will be held in The Country Bistro, Taghmon, at 7.30 p.m.

As usual, let a committee member know whether you are playing or not. Bring along a friend as a visitor.
