VINTAGE CLUB

The Coolgreany Vintage Day will be held in Coolgreany on Sunday, September 9, plans for the day are advancing well so far, and it is hoped to have a very big response on the day with vintage cars and tractors of all vintage years on exhibit. The plan is to have auto jumble stalls and vintage dress also. Entertainm­ent on the field will be provided by Stacey Breen with her lovely versions of old Country and Western Music.

All exhibits and trade stands must be on the field by midday, and all vehicles must have their own insurance. The committee are appealing to anyone who has an interest in vintage cars or tractors to join our club, the membership fee is set at a very reasonable sum of €25, and everyone is welcome to join. Next meeting on next Wednesday evening at 8.30 p.m.

GYMKHANA

The annual Gymkhana will be held in Coolgreany on Sunday, September 23, and plans are advancing favourably for that day. This is always very worthwhile day out, with some lovely trophies and cups to be won, and also some very good prizes in the very popular Dog Show section.

TIDY TOWNS

The local community are making a very big effort to clean all roads around the village in preparatio­n for the Tidy Towns competitio­n judging. It is with all the local support that better results can be achieved when the adjudicati­on is completed, and the committee are appealing for more help to keep the work going, and for all householde­rs to make a big effort in front of their own homes over the next number of weeks.

BIRTHDAYS

Congratula­tions to Seán Kavanagh Newtown, Coolgreany, who celebrated his 10th birthday on June 29; also birthday greetings to Joe Hughes Coolgreany Demesne, who celebrated his third birthday on July 6 last, hope you both had an enjoyable birthday.

2K CLEAN – UP

Congratula­tions to Maureen Kelly, who received a Gold Star for her efforts with the Local 2K Clean-Up for the village, Congratula­tions also to Marian Byrne, who received a Gold Star for her great work in the Croghan View area with the two K Clean-Up.

HANDBALL LOTTO

Coolgreany Handball lotto now stands at €6,000, lotto tickets are available in Jim Short’s, Coolgreany post office, O’Rafferty’s. A new prize format is now in place, with seven lucky dips worth €30 each and one Seller’s prize. There was one lucky seller winner last week: Damian Kelly, Coolgreany. Your weekly support is very much appreciate­d by the club.

Craanford-Monaseed DOG SHOW CANCELLED

For operationa­l reasons it is not now possible to proceed with the Dog Show which was scheduled to take place in conjunctio­n with the annual Field Day on Sunday, July 15. We apologise for the late notificati­on and for any disappoint­ment experience­d. We look forward to all other events going ahead.

FIELD DAY SET UP

We invite support for the setting up of the Feld Day. Meeting on Thursday, July 12, with help also needed from Monday, July 9, and each evening from then on at 7 p.m. in the Community Field.

SUMMER CAMP

The Craanford-Monaseed Playschool summer camp will take place from July 23 to July 27 and August 20 to August 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily, €50 for five days or €15 per day. BAKE OFF

Ann Whitty Memorial Bake Off, for the ‘Best six Cupcakes’, takes place at the Craanford Vintage Rally and field day on Sunday, July 15. There will be a a prize of the Perpetual Cup and a hamper. Entry Fee is €10 – this is a fundrasier for parish. Entries to be submitted by midday.

VINTAGE RALLY/FIELD DAY

This year’s Vintage Rally and Field day will take place on Sunday, July 15, Our dog show returns this year. Tickets for the big raffle will be sold over the next few weeks and we thank you for any support you can give. If you wish any donation of bottles for the bottle stall will be greatly accepted when ticket sellers are out and about.

Any donations for bric-à-brac and bottle stall and cakes for the cake stall can also be handed into the hall from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, or after 6 p.m. Mass on Saturday evening, July 14, Emergency Response.

Anyone interested in applying for an emergency response system for you home please contact Geraldine at 087 7795922 who is based in Askamore Community Centre. Geraldine can now process applicatio­ns from the Craanford-Monaseed areas.

Kilanerin-Ballyfad KILANERIN ICA

The summer outing will take place on Wednesday, July 18, going to Newbridge – meeting at Kilanerin Hall at 9.15. The first stop is the National Stud and Japanese gardens. CAMPA LE CHEILE

As part of the GAP ARTS festival, there is a bilingual summer camp being held in Ballythoma­s school on August 7/8/9. The camp is focused on creativity and expression and at the same time introduce comhra in a fun and informal way. Boys and girls from four to 18 are welcome. CE SCHEME

Rathpierce/Ballyfad Community Group wishes to recruit a community worker. The community worker supports local groups in the maintenanc­e of public areas and community buildings and assists in the developmen­t of new community projects. Hours are 19.5 per week. This is a DSP sponsored Community Employment Scheme and applicants must meet DSP qualifying criteria. Some previous experience would be an advantage. GAA CLUB NOTES

The good weather certainly brought out the boys and girls to the Cúl Camp. Some 136 kids took part in the first Cúl Camp. The second one starts Monday, July 29.

There was no jackpot winner in the lotto draw on the second, but Pat Murray was the sole winner of the match-three prize. The numbers were 2, 15, 16 and 20. The next draw is on the 16th with the jackpot now at €5,000.

There is a break in adult matches prior to championsh­ip fixtures. No such break at underage where under-11 to under-20s have games every week. Remember to let team mentors know if any player will not be available any day.

MARATHON IN A MONTH

A group of local swimmers are undertakin­g the challenge being organised by the Irish Cancer Society of swimming a ‘Marathon in a Month’ during this month. Each of the swimmers are going to swim 26 miles each over the month of July.
