THERE was a major rush on at the new Centra Service Station on the Milehouse Road on Thursday as staff frantically put the finishing touches to Enniscorthy’s newest shop hours before opening the doors. The progress on the new, ultra-modern service station has been rapid and as the last products were put on the shelves ahead of a wave of curious customers flocking through the doors, owner Martin McSorely explained the reasoning behind the rush.

‘Well we wanted to make sure we were up and running and opened the doors on the Thursday, because nobody wants to open a new business on Friday the 13th,’ he laughed.

A native of Sligo, Martin is the owner of a total of five other service stations across the country, including one in Courtown and one in Ballinaboola. He said he is delighted to add the Milehouse Road station to the group.

‘Well initially the planning permission was brought to our attention,’ he said. ‘We liked the site and applied to the developer and we managed to thrash out a deal.’

The new station features six fuel pumps, a car-wash, laundrette machines, a deli counter and coffee dock and a fully stocked Centra supermarket. It presently employs 15 people, led by manager Aaron Doyle, and Martin is hopeful that this number will increase as time goes by, particularly with plans afoot for major housing developments in the area.

‘Initially things are going very well so far,’ he said. ‘We’re absolutely rushed off our feet and we couldn’t get the place open quick enough.’

‘ This service station is very modern in comparison to others in the area, so we’re delighted to have things up and running at last and to have opened our doors to the people of Enniscorthy.’
