- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

BUNCLODY is set to be turned into a real ‘wonderland’ this weekend as the Streams of Bunclody Festival takes over town from Friday to Sunday.

This year’s festival follows a magical ‘Alice in Wonderland’ theme and will kick off with a parade with the Queen of Hearts at 8 p.m. on Friday night.

Market Square will be transformed into a scene from the legendary Lewis Carroll tale with court entertainers producing a dazzling street spectacle to get things up and running.

Saturday will see a full day of fun for ‘Royal Market Day’ getting underway at 11 a.m. Entertainment for young and old is promised as Royal Entertainers once again perform tricks, acrobatics and tomfoolery while artisan producers sell their wares and various workshops take place.

There will also be an exhibition entitled ‘ Life on the Hill’ from the Blackstairs Farmers, storytelling in the library from 11 a.m. and a barbecue and various other events at the Garden Centre, Glanbia from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bringing Saturday to a close will be a staging of ‘Across Blue Waters’ - a drama inspired by the events of 1798 - at St Aidan’s Hall, with tickets priced at €15.

Sunday is ‘family fun day’ and the grounds of Bunclody Vocational College will be transformed into the Court of the Queen of Hearts with fantasy croquette, a Mad Hatter’s magical tea party and the Royal Entertainers once again in full flow. ‘Across Blue Waters’ will once again be staged in St Aidan’s Hall at 8 p.m.

The festival promises to be a great weekend in Wonderland and has something for everyone, young and old. For more details on the Festival, contact the Art Bank or Bunclody Tourist Office.
