GAA and Jack & Jill benefit from Ballamon Bull Festival

- By BRENDAN KEANE

THE organisers of the annual Ballamon Bull Fest have expressed delight at the success of this year’s event which was held to raise money for the Jack & Jill Foundation and for Kilrush-Askamore GAA club.

The event took place on the farm of Harry and Amanda Murphy and speaking to this newspaper Amanda said they were very happy with how it went.

‘We were delighted to be able to help the two organisations and we were very grateful to Frank Doyle [from the GAA club] and John Donohoe for all their help,’ she said.

‘We held it last year for St Patrick’s Special School and this year we decided to divide the money raised between the GAA club and the foundation,’ she added.

The festival included a barn dance and barbecue with music provided by Electric Green and Trademark while An- thony Donohoe was the DJ on the night.

A number of visiting musicians also performed while the catering end of things was taken care of by the Wildflower Cafe, from Beechdale Garden Centre in Clonroche, Candy’s, in Carnew, and O’Neill Dry Cure Bacon.

‘We were so grateful to everyone who helped out on the day and contributed to its success,’ said Amanda.

‘Last winter myself and my husband were out feeding cattle in the yard and it was definitely different to look out and see musicians playing there,’ she added.

Amanda also expressed surprise that many of those attending were unfamiliar with the Jack & Jill Foundation and an added bonus was being able to give out information about the charity and the work it does.

‘It turned out to be a great event and we want to thank everyone who turned up to support it and it’s great that we get to support a local club and a very good charity organisation too,’ said Amanda.
