Woman jailed for car insurance offence
A FOURTH conviction for no insurance has resulted in a custodial sentence for a Riverchapel woman.
Henrieta Kacsorne (35) of 136 Riverchapel View appeared before Judge Kevin Staunton facing her fourth charge for driving without insurance in a relatively short period of time. She was stopped by gardaí on Coach Road, Gorey, on January 17 of this year and was also charged with driving without a licence.
Solicitor Peter Crean said that his client had three previous convictions for no insurance and said that she ‘hadn’t grasped quite how serious this matter is’. He said that after talking with the Probation Service, Kacsorne, a mother of three young children, was now fully aware of the potential consequences of her actions and asked the court for one final chance for her.
‘When a person is convicted the first time, they should grasp the seriousness of it,’ said Judge Staunton. ‘Then the second time; then the third time. It appears she has already done some community service and now she’s hear a fourth time. She has absolutely no regard for the road traffic laws. I’m afraid a custodial sentence is unavoidable.’
Judge Staunton then handed Kacsorne a four month prison sentence and banned her from driving for five years. The charge of driving without a licence was taken into consideration.
