Major progress being made at Doran’s Bridge

-

RESIDENTS from the Kiltealy area have welcomed action taken by Wexford County Council to address the problem at the lethal junction at Doran’s Bridge, just outside the village. The junction had been the site of countless crashes and residents put pressure on elected officials to act before somebody was killed as a result of a collision there.

After a long process, which saw the matter raised by local councillors on several occasions, work got underway recently and the committee, headed by local man Noel Armstrong are convinced that things are moving in the right direction.

‘Work is fairly well on at this stage,’ he said. ‘We’re still waiting on the flashing signs, but they’ve resurfaced the junction from all four directions and raised the surface a bit, which is a big help. As well as that then, they got rid of a lot of the vegetation on the bridge and took out some of the bushes that were obstructing the view there. It’s certainly should help matters and the feedback that I’m getting from the local community is that everyone is very happy with the job that’s been done so far. The only concern at the moment is that the vegetation will have to be continued to be cut back, but that’s a matter for down the line.’

It is hoped that the new measures taken by the council will result in a marked reduction in the amount of road traffic collisions at the crossroads and residents believe that things are definitely moving in the right direction.
