Luka Bloom set for Phil Murphy weekend
THE line-up for the 27th annual Phil Murphy Weekend has been announced and it features some of the most celebrated names in contemporary Irish and international folk music.
Renowned Irish songwriter, Luka Bloom, will be among the main headline acts at this year’s event which will take place from July 26 to 29. Trad and folk legends, Lunasa, will also feature among the star attractions.
The festival is one of the most anticipated music events on the County Wexford calendar and the strength of this year’s line-up is such that it could be one of the best yet.
In addition to the main headliners the weekend will also see a number of other well-known and highly regarded acts in action including: Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh; Seamus Begley & Donagh Hennessy; Dan Brouder & Angelina Carberry; 2 Time Polka; Tin Sandwich Band; Anna Falkenau, Ged Foley and Steve Sweeney. Local acts such as the Danescastle Music Group will also perform during the event.
The organisers told this newspaper there will be some new aspects to the festival this year and in launching the programme Danescastle school Principal, Aine Kennedy, said the initiative is now synonymous with Carrig-on-Bannow.
She praised the organisers for putting Danescastle and Carrig-on-Bannow on the national and international maps and said everyone locally is looking forward to the event.
As well as the main concerts the festival will also feature workshops, trad sessions and a ceili.
