Wells House and Hook among locations in Colum’s comics

-

WHAT DO the Dunbrody Famine Ship, Hook Lighthouse and Wells House and Gardens have in common?

Apart from being iconic local heritage sites, they are also the settings for the first collection of comic book stories from the Timespear Chronicles.

The Timespear Chronicles are comic book adventures set in favourite heritage locations. Each book is a stand-alone story that follows three young heroes, Manus, Amy and Feelan as the Timespear teleports them through history from one amazing location to the next.

The comic books were created by Wexford writer Colum Kavanagh and produced by his business, Paper Juice Creative, which was established after he took part in the Local Enterprise Office’s ‘South East Creative Corridor’ initiative.

The year-long programme set out to to build the capacity of content creation businesses operating in the south east of Ireland and featured input from successful creative entrepreneurs such as Paul Young, CEO of Cartoon Saloon, Siún Ni Raghallaigh, CEO of Ardmore Studios, and Larry Bass, CEO of Shinawil. ‘I want children from Wexford and beyond to enjoy the fictional adventures of Manus, Amy and Feelan but I also hope that the Timespear Chronicles will help some kids to discover these amazing real-world locations’, said Colum, a life-long comic book fan.

Each Timespear Chronicles comic book contains an introductory page to the main characters, along with an exciting fictional story set at the relevant heritage site.

The Timespear Chronicles comic books are available for sale at the Dunbrody Famine Ship, Hook Lighthouse and Wells House and Gardens. Each publication also comes with a free Timespear Chronicles souvenir postcard.
