It was a quiet weekend on the roads for the Sliabh Buidhe Rovers.

Bernard Fortune was the star last week as the Barnlands man had a very good run on Wednesday when he tackled the eleven kilometre mountain race on Brockagh in Co. Wicklow, coming home in third position.

He finished less than a minute behind the race winner Barry Minnock, an international athlete from Rathfarnham W.S.A.F.

Then on Saturday, Bernard finished an excellent second in the Leinster championship mountain race that took place in Carlingford, Co. Louth. A new route was used this year and comprised a very difficult 16-kilometre race from Carlingford to Fox’s Rock and back to Carlingford.

On Saturday, husband and wife duo Claire and Myles Gibbons each won the Gorey Parkrun.

Claire ran a steady 24:21 to win over the 5k distance, while Myles was unchallenged when winning in 19:25.

Michael Breen continued a strong 2018 campaign with a 1:19:35 finish in the Irish Runner 10 Mile. Well done on a challenging course and warm morning.

The second evening of the County Wexford Senior track and field championships took place on Wednesday at the Sports Hub in Enniscorthy and S.B.R. was represented by Tomás Breen in the distance running events.

Daragh Cloake was a strong sixth in a good field on Friday at the Donohoe Skoda Slaney Olympic summer league trail 5k.

The Mick Murphy Memorial road race returns on Saturday, September 8, at 5 p.m. in Ferns village.

This is always a great race with lots of prizes up for grabs and a great night of food and refreshments that follows it. All details can be found on www. sbrclub.com

Well done to the many S.B.R. club members who exchanged their running shoes for bicycles on Sunday morning as they took on the challenge of the 50k and 100k routes of the charity cycle organised for the Jack and Jill Foundation.

The event started and finished at Naomh Eanna’s G.AA.. complex in Gorey and was well organised by Derek Webb and his team from Gorey Cycling Club.

Club training for Senior ladies and men takes place each Thursday off the Newtown Road in Ferns at 7 p.m.

All members are encouraged to attend and the club always welcomes new faces to join Sliabh Buidhe Rovers A.C.
