PRIDE OF PLACE

Judging Day for the IPB National Pride of Place is drawing very near. The final planning meeting takes place in St Brigid’s Hall on Wednesday, July 18, at 7 p.m. Judging Day is Thursday, July 26, starting at 10 a.m. This will be a great day of celebratio­n for the village.

The Ben Mulhall Park Committee would like to express their gratitude to all who supported the ‘Reformatio­n of the Ben Mulhall Park’ Cabaret held in Dunne’s Lounge on Saturday, July 7. The cabaret was a great success and was enjoyed by all on the night with lots of dancing and singing. Thank you to our sponsors of the door prizes and those who sponsored the wonderful raffle prizes on the night. Thank you to the organiser’s on the night, to the ladies selling the raffle tickets and thank you to Johnny Dunne for the use of his premises.

GAA LOTTO

There was no winner of the Kildavin-Clonegal GAA. Lotto jackpot of €10,000, held on Sunday, July 8. Numbers drawn were 14, 24, 26 and 27. Winners that matched three were Mick Balfe, Abbeydown, Mary Murphy, Kildavin and Joe Mernagh Snr, Kildavin, receiving €50 each. There were no online winners. The seller’s prize goes to Aidan Kelly, receiving €50. The next draw will take place in Osborne’s Lounge, Clonegal on Sunday, July 22, with a jackpot worth €10,000 and Reserve jackpot of €4,800. Buy your tickets for €2 each.

DEEPEST SYMPATHY

The village of Kildavin, Clonegal and the wider community was saddened to hear the death of Pat Townsend, Ballypierc­e, Kildavin, who passed away on Friday, July 6.

Pat is sadly missed by his loving wife Rita, daughter Ann-Marie, sons John and Pat, sisters Joan, Lilly, Agnes and Ann and brothers Séamus and the late Martin, grandchild­ren Alex and Tyler, daughters-in-law Eliz and Louise and son-in-law Niall. Pat is sadly missed by his nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Funeral Mass took place on Sunday in St Lazerian’s Church, Kildavin, followed by burial afterwards in the new cemetery. May he rest in peace.

TIDY VILLAGE SURVEY

On Saturday, July 28, Leonie Cornelius, winner of RTÉ’s Super Garden and the Mail on Sunday gardening columnist will give a talk in Huntington Castle and Gardens, Clonegal at midday. Admission €5. Leonie will also visit Newtownbar­ry House and Gardens, Bunclody at 3 p.m. Admission €5.

On Monday, July 30, Fionnuala Fallon, gardening correspond­ent with the Irish Times will give a talk in the Meadows, Myshall at 3 p.m. Admission €5. Tuesday, July 31, Cormac Downey, OPW Tree Officer will visit Altamont Gardens, Tullow at 11 a.m. Admission is free.

BUNCLODY MARKET

Bunclody Market are honoured to be a big part of the second Bunclody Festival which is taking place on Saturday, July 21, and 22 2018. Bunclody Market will be open on both days of the festival in St Aidan’s Hall, Irish Street from 10 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Tea or coffee and delicious homemade produce along with wonderful stallholde­rs who will have a great selection of crafts from signs, knitwear, local honey, jam, fresh strawberri­es, vegetables, flowers, candles, books, cards, crochet, soaps, jewellery, bath bombs, art and lots more.
