Monster truck run to drive up MRI funds

- By BRENDAN KEANE

THE second annual Wexford Monster Truck Run will take place over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, July 28 and 29, and all money raised from it will go towards the MRI scanner fund for Wexford General Hospital.

The event was officially launched on Wednesday evening in Kilrane which will also provide the venue for a massive truck show on Sunday, July 29.

Speaking to this newspaper about the run the committee secretary, Con Morris, said those involved hoped that last year’s figure of €4,000 for the hospital will be surpassed this time around.

‘We had a good turnout last year and were delighted to raise €4,000 but we hope we can expand on that this year,’ he said.

A family-orientated event admission to the truck show will be €5 for adults with children getting in free-of-charge. The event is being organised in conjunction with the Friends of Wexford Hospital committee.

The truck run itself will take place on the Saturday and will begin at the old Renault compound in Kilrane at 12 midday and will follow a route to New Ross, Enniscorthy, Gorey and Wexford town via the coast road.

The run will end back where it started in Kilrane where a 4,000sq ft marquee will be set up and music will be provided by the Big Party Rockabilly Band at 10 p.m.

Admission to the marquee on Saturday night will be €10 and all money raised from the event will go towards the hospital fund.

On Sunday the music will be performed by Borderline from 12 noon.

Sunday will also be the main family day of the weekend and there will be a wide range of stalls and attractions on-site including bouncy castles and in addition to the trucks there will also be cars and motorbikes on display.

‘We’re hoping it will be as big a success as last year,’ said another committee member, Ricky Breslin.

Both Mr Breslin and Mr Morris were full of praise for local businesses and individuals who have given their support to the event to-date.

The cost of registration to participate in the event with a truck is €50 which includes a weekend pass for the run and truck show along with a hot meal, free entry into the music marquee and a goody bag.

The price for truck passengers will be €10.
