Table Quiz
Enniscorthy Drama Group will host a fundraising table quiz at the IFA Centre on Mill Park Road this Friday, July 27 at 8 p.m. The cost of entry is €20 for a table of four and some great prizes are up for grabs.
Fight Night
The Fire Service and An Garda Síochána will do battle in the boxing ring a The Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy on August 5 as they take part in the Blue Light Fight Night for Friends of St Patrick’s Special School. This is the second year that the event has taken place and last year it was the firefighters that emerged with bragging rights. With the gardaí keen for revenge, it promises to be a great night of entertainment for a great cause. Tickets are selling fast and are for sale from Enniscorthy Fire Station on Tuesday nights from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. and are priced at €20.
Lourdes book
A book celebrating 50 years of the Ferns pilgrimage to Lourdes is available to buy now from the St Aidan’s Parish Office. The book is filled with interesting articles, old photographs and memories from over the years. They are priced at €10 and people are encouraged to get them now while stocks last.
Exhibition
A new exhibition of the work of artist Helen McCleane is to take over the Presentation Centre following the official launch on Saturday, June 28, at 2.30 p.m. The exhibition, An Unfolding Portrait, is a vivid combination of suggestive imagery alongside descriptive imagery, creating a dream-like space. It will run until September 9 and people are advised to drop in and see it for themselves. Helen works in paint, glass and mosaic, some of which are on a huge scale. While a lot of her work will be on display, some will be represented by photography of the work alongside original pieces. For more details, please contact the Presentation Centre.
Rory’s Stories
Rapparees-Starlights GAA Club is delighted to host an evening of laughter with the hilarious YouTube sensation Rory’s Stories at Bellefield on Saturday, July 28. With a massive fanbase right across the country as a result of his hilarious skit videos ranging on every topic from local GAA club characters to the Irish abroad, Rory will have you in stitches and a great night is guaranteed! Tickets are available from the clubhouse bar and from any senior panel members priced at €10, but they are selling fast!
Mark McCabe
Legendary Irish DJ Mark McCabe, the man behind dance anthem ‘Maniac 2000’, is to perform a special DJ set at Benedict’s in Templeshannon on Saturday, August 25. It promises to be a great night with more than just a hint of nostalgia. Tickets are now available from www.eventbrite.ie priced from €12.50 to €20.
Cemetery Patrons
The Cathedral Cemetery Patron and St Mary’s Cemetery Patron will take place on Sunday, August 12, at 11.50 a.m. and 3 p.m. respectively. People are encouraged to tend to family graves in advance and are asked to dispose of their rubbish in the bins provided and keep the graveyards looking nice. People are also asked to respect these resting places and property of others who visit the cemetery.
Sive
Blackstairs Mountain Theatre are holing open auditions for ‘Sive’ by John B Keane in The Presentation Centre on Monday, July 30 at 8 p.m. On the night, there will be an introduction to the play, as well as an onstage workshop and all are welcome to attend. Sive features a cast of six men and three women and will be directed by Jimmy Kavanagh. If you are interested in acting or getting involved in any aspect of the production, you can come along on the night and put your name forward. Volunteers
St Aidan’s Parish are still on the lookout for volunteers to help out at the cathedral.
Particularly sought are church cleaners willing to give one hour of their time each month. Volunteers are particularly needed from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays, and Saturday mornings after 10 a.m. Mass. Basket collectors are being sought for the 9.30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday Masses each week and Eucharistic Ministers are required for several Masses. Summer camp
The FAI summer Soccer Camp will take place at Shamrock Rovers’ Peter Quinn Park from Monday, August 6, to Friday, August 10. The camp is for boys and girls aged from 6 to 14 and runs from 10.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Participants will receive an exclusive kit, backpack, football and certificate. Early booking is advised. Pope Francis’ visit
There is a limited number of places remaining on the St Aidan’s parish trip for the visit of Pope Francis to the World Meeting of Families on Wednesday, August 22 and Sunday, August 26. Everyone who attends the RDS on Wednesday, August 22, will be guaranteed a ticket for Mass with the Pope on Sunday, August 26.
The parish has booked two buses to travel to Dublin on both Wednesday and Sunday for the closing mass. If you would like to travel with the parish, please inform the Parish Office as soon as possible to book your seat and place. The total cost of the trip is €70 which includes the bus both days, admission to the RDS and a light lunch on the Wednesday. Beginner’s Soccer
Shamrock Rovers are including parents to introduce their children (boys and girls) to the game of soccer in a fun and non-competitive environment
at Peter Quinn Park, Templeshannon. The club is offering a free hour of soccer fun where four to six year olds can practice their skills and develop a love of the game. Kids can come along every Saturday morning at 10 a.m. over the summer months.
Retirement Association
A members’ meeting will take place on the first Tuesday of each month at the Riverside Hotel at 2.30 p.m. A theatre trip to see ‘Wicked’ is planned for tomorrow, July 25 and the association trip to Jersey will be on September 17.
Ongoing activities are as follows: Monday – Line dancing at 11 a.m. at Astro Active Centre; Indoor bowls at 1 p.m. at Astro Active Centre. Wednesday – Walk at 11 a.m. from Riverside Hotel; Pitch and Putt at 10.30 a.m. at St Patrick’s Pitch and Putt course on Wednesday and Friday; table quiz at 2.30 p.m. every second Wednesday at Loreto Village. Thursday – Ramblers’ walk at 9.30 a.m. from LIDL car park; Scrabble at 10 a.m. at Astro Active Centre. Among the upcoming events are a sponsored walk and barbecue on July 4, a trip to see ‘Wicked’ on Wednesday, July 25 and Gowran Races on July 28.
Tidy Towns
Enniscorthy Tidy Towns are encouraging people to ‘pay it forward’ and get involved in keeping the town looking beautiful. The concept states that charity begins at home and encourages people to get together with friends and neighbours to take responsibility and tidy up their own neighbourhoods. Buddy the Musical
Having blown audiences away with a number of rockin’ performances last year, ‘Buddy the Musical’ is set to bring the legendary music of Buddy Holly to life onstage once again in aid of Pieta House at The Presentation Centre from August 13-16 and on August 20, at 8 p.m. nightly. The show tells the story of the tragically short life of Buddy Holly who, along with high-school friends and bandmates The Crickets, turned country music upside down to create some of the greatest rock n’ roll songs ever written. Once again, the show features some of the finest actors and musicians the South East has to offer and Kildare rock n’ roll sharpshooter Cado in the title role. Once again, it promises to be a hit with Enniscorthy audiences and tickets are now available for €15 from The Presentation Centre.
Craft Night
Enniscorthy Christian Fellowship wish to invite all women over 16 years of age to their free Ladies Craft Night tomorrow, Wednesday, July 25 at 7.30 p.m. in the Salt n’ Pepper Pot Restaurant, Bellefield, Enniscorthy. Tea and cakes will be served. All are welcome.
