PRIDE OF PLACE

Bunclody has been entered in the National IPB Pride of Place Competitio­n 2018. The judges will pay a three-hour visit to Bunclody on this Thursday, July 26, The visit will start in the art Bank at 10 a.m. and all those with an involvemen­t in Community Activity locally are invited to attend.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Maureen Murphy, Clohamon was awarded volunteer of the Year at the annual St Vincent de Paul Shops 2018 Awards at a prestigiou­s ceremony in Croke Park recently. Maureen was recognised for her volunteer work in the Vincent’s Shop and her work for St Vincent de Paul in the Bunclody area. The local St Vincent de Paul, St Teresa’s Conference, was founded 21 years ago. Maureen was surprised to receive the award and she accepted it on behalf of all conference and volunteer members. The shop, Vincent’s, opened just 10 years ago and has gone from strength to strength, thanks to the conference and volunteer members who have given their energy, commitment and tine to make it a success. Maureen thanks the people of Bunclody for their help, support and generosity.

PARISH PATRONS

The annual Parish Patron will take place in Bunclody on Friday, July 27, blessing of graves in Old Cemetery at 7 p.m. Calvary Cemetery: Holy Mass in Calvary Cemetery at 8 p.m.

BUNCLODY SWIMMING POOL

Bunclody Swimming Pool is open for the 2018 summer season. Admission fees: summer Family Membership. €120* (two adults + max four children under-16. €20 per child thereafter); summer Single Membership €60; Pay as you go – Adult €5 per hour; Pay as you go – Child €3 per hour.

WATER SAFETY WEEK

Water Safety Week at Bunclody Swimming Pool will run from July 30 to August 4 Due to increased numbers pre-registrati­on is required, an online link to book will be posted on our Facebook page beginning of June and there will be forms available from the Pool Manager. Do not delay, once we reach the maximum number of participan­ts we will not be taking any further enquiries and we will not be accepting registrati­ons on the day.

WHEN I SNAP MY FINGERS

Introducin­g Bunclody-Kilmyshall Drama Group’s ‘When I Snap My Fingers’ – a one-act comedy about a hypnotism gone wrong.

Under the expert hand of. director Mary Gibson, actors Niall Kennedy and Joan Lambert play a couple, Simon and Maria Moffat, who agree to undergo hypnosis as part of a hypnosis act by Sven Gali (played by John Donohoe).

A fire alarm sounds before Sven has a chance to remove the effect of certain trigger words. The following day Simon has invited his boss Dan and Dan’s wife Dolly (played by Conor Stephenson and Rebecca Murphy) round for dinner in the hope of salvaging his foundering accountanc­y career.

The Moffats’ teenage daughter (played by Chloe Kavanagh) tries desperatel­y to salvage the situation during an increasing­ly stressful. dinner which descends into frantic hilarity as her parents suddenly. transform themselves into their hyp- notised characters at the mention of trigger words. There are also excellent cameo appearance­s as hypnotised audience members by Barbara McCombe and Des Kennedy.

The play runs in Redmond’s in Bunclody from tonight, Tuesday the 24th, Wednesday the 25th, Thursday the 26th, Saturday the 28th and Sunday, July 29, at 9 p.m.

Thursday, August 9, at 7 p.m. – Cake Decorating Demonstrat­ion – Following the success of Marie’s children’s workshops in Bunclody Library, Marie will now present a cake decorating demonstrat­ion for adults. RUMMAGE SALE

A mini fundraiser to raise funds to purchase a ‘Buddy Bench’ for Kilmyshall National School which will take place each Saturday in July – including July 28 at the Local Bunclody Market from 10 p.m. to 2 p.m. in St Aidan’s Hall Irish Street, where we will have a wide variety of items from Books, DVDs, Toys, bric-à-brac and lots more, plenty of bargains with prices starting from 50c, €1, €2 etc why not pop in and have a good rummage and grab a bargain while also helping us fundraise for a Buddy Bench. A Buddy Bench is somewhere you can go and sit if you are feeling a little bit lonely especially if you are after starting a new school and are feeling a little bit overwhelme­d and for each child to know they are not the only one feeling that way. We want to encourage confidence in every child that attends Kilmyshall National School. We will also be holding a raffle with tickets on sale each Saturday and with the draw for the raffle taking place on Saturday, July 28.

ST LAZERIAN’S HOUSE IS 30

St Lazerian’s House, Bagenalsto­wn, Co Carlow is celebratin­g 30 years on August 5 and we would like the local community to join us in our celebratio­ns.

We would especially like to invite families and relatives who were part of St Lazerian’s House over the years, past board members, volunteers and staff to our open day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

KCLR will broadcast their Classic Hits Show live from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and there will be a vintage car exhibition from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Refreshmen­ts will be served all day along with mouth-watering brilliant home-baked cakes and scones.
