ST. KILLIAN’S A.C.

-

While our Juvenile athletes have been in sizzling form and literally flying high, our Senior athletes have been mixing it up between track and road races over the last number of weeks.

Menapians held their annual 5k road race on Friday, and St. Killian’s were well represented. The rain was unusually a welcome relief for everyone on what was a testing course.

Niall Sheil had a good run to take second place from Freddy Keron of Raheny Shamrocks. The leaders were bunched together for the first 2k, at which stage Freddy took charge and wound up the pace to finish in a time of 16.04 minutes, with Niall pushing him hard to finish two seconds behind in 16.06.

Seamus Harding looked in great shape and dug deep to finish in 36th position in a time of 29.12.

Gail Kavanagh had a super race to finish in 121st position in a time of 28.56. It was a very enjoyable evening and it was great to see the race being well supported.

Niall was our only representative at the county track and field championships were he took gold in the 3k and 1,500m. He also competed and won in the Castlebridge 6k which is part of the excellent Slaney Olympic A.C. summer series. This is a great series and well worth considering for a competitive local, well-organised race.

Brian O’Shaughnessy was our sole representative in the recent county Masters road race.

In a competitive field over a challenging 6k course, Brian had a great race to finish in 14th place in a time of 21.25 minutes.

Brian followed this up with a super performance in the Slaney Olympic ten-mile race where he finished fourth in a time of 62 minutes 50 seconds.

Brian was joined by Chris McCarthy who again ran out of his skin to finish in tenth position in a time of 68 minutes 46 seconds.
