Arrests following town mugging

-

A LOCAL man in his thirties was brought to Wexford General Hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning having been the victim of a vicious robbery in Enniscorthy town centre.

The incident took place at around 2.30 a.m. on Slaney Street and saw the victim, on his way home, approached by four males who had gotten out of a silver car. He was knocked to the ground and assaulted and his phone and wallet were taken from him as kicks and punches rained down upon him.

The perpetrators left the man bloodied and bruised and he eventually made his way to the local Garda Station to report the matter. He was then taken to hospital for treatment.

Two similar incidents took place in Wexford town less than an hour-and-a-half later which saw another man and a woman also assaulted and robbed.

A spokesman for Enniscorthy gardaí said: ‘ There were two other similar attacks in Wexford town shortly after the Enniscorthy one. The detective branch here in Enniscorthy put an operation in place with our colleagues in Wexford and a total of five arrests were made over the weekend. A vehicle was also seized during the course of the operation. Statements were taken and a file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.’

The men arrested are said to be from the Wexford town area and are known to gardaí. While the victim in Enniscorthy was left battered and bruised, he is expected to make a full recovery.
