Plenty of entertainment for Leo Carthy weekend
THE FIFTH annual Leo Carthy festival takes place this weekend in Our Lady’s Island.
Events begin on Saturday at 8.30 p.m. in the Community Hall with a great night’s entertainment from a number of acts including Danescastle Music Group, George Lawlor, Brendan Wickham and friends, Trio, and Martina Keane. You’re guaranteed a laugh with comedy from the Ballycogley Players. Admission is €10 with free refreshments at the interval.
On Sunday, the festivities start at 12.30 p.m. with a 6km fun run. Registration is from 11.30 a.m. in the community hall. Entry is €10 per adult and €5 per child with prizes for category winners and spot prizes. Refreshments will be served after the race and there will be kids’ entertainment and live music on site.
Live music starts on the open air stage at 1 p.m. A mumming exhibition with the festival’s great friends the Drinagh Mummers will take place at 2.30 p.m., followed by Theresa and the Stars. Refreshments will be available in the coffee shop. Children’s entertainment will include an obstacle course, bouncy castle, crazy golf and face painting.
Finally, after a hugely successful inaugural year last year, the sheep racing will return this year! This great family day out is free to attend.
All funds raised over the weekend will go to the Irish Heart Foundation, the RNLI and various local voluntary groups.
