Moore the merrier for Kilmore

- MICHAEL HEFFERNAN

DÁITHI MOORE fired Kilmore to their third win in the Joyces Expert Intermediate ‘A’ football championship with an impressive display against Kilrush in this one-sided Group A tie in St. Patrick’s Park, Enniscorthy, on Saturday.

The rangy centre-forward was not only clinical from placed balls, but was also dangerous from play, creating chances with some intelligent passing and taking some opportunities of his own along the way.

Moore’s side were simply too much for their opponents overall, dominant in almost every position and looking very comfortable when in possession.

The teams looked evenly matched after the early exchanges, with Moore and Tommy Cousins trading scores with Tom White and Conor Levingstone.

But everything changed on the eight-minute mark when a free from Moore dropped short and ended up in the net, and it immediately seemed like this could be a long day for Kilrush.

Suspicions were confirmed over the next ten minutes when Moore added to three well-taken points with a perfectly placed shot to the top corner of the net and, with help from Tom Byrne and the lively Tommy Cousins, Kilmore were now eleven points clear.

Kilrush needed something to get themselves going, and a Shane Tomkins goal just before the break gave them some form of hope and reduced the gap to eight.

Kilrush tried to gather some momentum and traded scores soon after the resumption of play.

However, any glimmer of hope they had was crushed when substitute Séan Hogan crept behind the defence and finished to the net from close range.

The seasiders finished the game out strong- ly, with Moore adding three more to his tally, and they held their opponents scoreless for the remainder of the action.

It left Kilmore with that third win from three games, while Kilrush are still in search of a second victory.
